Ways to Give
Preservation is truly the gift that keeps on giving. It is what reminds us of the past and inspires us to create a heritage for the future. Through the support of donors and volunteers, Historic Richmond Foundation is able to achieve its mission of preserving the unique architecture, history and culture of the city.
Tax-deductible donations and gifts support Historic Richmond Foundation’s efforts to save historic properties from demolition; educate the community about our past; publish accounts of our Historic Districts; and maintain partnerships with other Richmond-based nonprofits. Through your generosity, we will continue to lead Richmond in the fight for preserving our built environment in order to create a heritage for the future.
There are many ways that you can play a role in preserving Richmond’s history. Below are a few of the ways that you may give to Historic Richmond Foundation.
Annual Fund
This Historic Richmond Foundation Annual Fund supports not only the operations of the organization but also the maintenance of the buildings we currently own, the buying of new buildings, events, and educational programs we hold throughout the year. By giving to the Annual Fund, you truly are helping to be the conscience of the built environment in Richmond. All gifts are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
Planned Giving
Leave your legacy behind by creating the continued programs and services by leaving Historic Richmond Foundation in your will; giving the gift of money, or possessions. The following language can be used to include the Foundation in gifts:
I hereby give, devise and bequeath to the Historic Richmond Foundation _______ percent of my net residuary estate (or the sum of $____________, the following described property, or the rest and residue of my estate after payment of the foregoing bequest). This is an unrestricted gift and may be used to further the purpose of Historic Richmond Foundation.
In-Kind Gifts
HRF graciously accepts items and services that would benefit our mission and daily operations as a preservation organization. A few of the items that the Foundation could currently benefit from are as follows:
- Seasonal plants, including boxwoods
- Floor and table lamps
Corporate Giving
Corporate gifts and sponsorships, whether restricted or unrestricted, are greatly appreciated. Corporate gifts are honored specially in our Annual Report and are greatly appreciated. For more information, please see below under Sponsorships.
Corporate Gift Matching
Historic Richmond Foundation gladly accepts all gift-matching from any corporation. Please mail gift-matching forms to the Historic Richmond Foundation headquarters along with your annual fund gift. The development staff will be pleased to assist you in any way possible, and will follow-up with your company to clarify its gift-matching policy.
Foundation Gifts
Private Family Foundation or other Foundations gifts, restricted or unrestricted, are warmly accepted here at Historic Richmond Foundation We rely on the charitable trusts of several families and private individuals to help offset daily operating expenses and to take on new projects in the Richmond community.
Tribute Gifts
Tribute gifts are a wonderful way to memorialize an individual who holds Richmond history close to his or her heart. Tribute Gifts are also a wonderful way to honor an individual for a birthday, anniversary or holiday. Your gift will help to increase awareness about the importance of Richmond’s historic built environment, as well as make an individual feel special about his or her own personal contribution. Upon receipt of a Tribute Gift, a special card will be mailed to inform the recipient of their unique recognition.

Sponsorships
As an effective way to increase awareness about your business or organization in the community, individual and corporate sponsorships help Historic Richmond Foundation with various educational and preservation-related events. HRF holds many lectures, tours and fundraising events throughout the year where donation of funds, goods, services would greatly increase the impact of the Foundation’s reach in the community.
In return for sponsorships, an individual’s name or company logo would be proudly displayed at events, on our website in our print marketing materials, and monthly emails.
Historic Richmond Foundation also offers ad space for purchase on the back of our printed newsletters.
