Historic West Hospital is an architectural landmark along East Broad Street. Designed by Baskervill & Son and built in 1941, it is unique as an Art Deco high rise hospital funded by the Public Works Administration. Now owned by VCU and occupied as offices, VCU proposes to demolish West Hospital and to replace the building with a new space for academic, research, and office needs. In June 2024, the State Board of the Department of Historic Resources declared the building eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. We believe that West Hospital can and should be rehabilitated.
