Part historical field trip and part happy hour, Quoit Club gives members access to exclusive tours of the city’s most fascinating historic buildings, adaptive reuse projects, and at-risk sites.
Inspired by quoits, a 19th-century game similar to horseshoes played with steel rings and metal spikes, Quoit Club blends tradition with modern social engagement. Members will connect with great people, enjoy food and drinks, and gain insight from expert commentary on Richmond’s history, architecture, and culture. By participating, you’ll also support Historic Richmond’s mission to preserve and celebrate the city’s distinctive built environment.
The 2026 season runs from April to September, with events held on the third Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Membership is open to individuals aged 21 and older. Young Professional memberships are available for members aged 35 and younger. Limited individual tickets are available for $35.00 to any events not listed as Members Only.
2026 Quoit Club Schedule:

Private Residence - Members Only
Join us for a tour of a private Hampton Gardens residence, a rare historic cottage in Richmond’s West End. Dating to the mid-19th century, this one-story, Italianate dwelling features a low hip roof, S-curve brackets supporting deep eaves, 11 foot ceilings and historic outbuildings. An 1881 deed shows the cottage on a 99 acre farm named "Sharon", owned by the Williams family, several of whom were instrumental in the founding of the University of Richmond's law school. Today, the residence sits among the stately Colonial Revival homes of a Westhampton neighborhood developed by businessman Abram L. McClellan in the early 20th century.

William Fox Elementary School
Originally built in 1911, William Fox Elementary was designed by Charles M Robinson and sits on an entire city block in the center of the Fan District. It is a two-story brick and stone building, mostly vernacular in style with some Arts and Crafts influence, topped by a cupola. In 2022 the building suffered a devastating fire, resulting in an outpouring of community support to preserve the building. The school reopened for the 2025-2026 year. Join us for a tour and discussion of the recently renovated school with Quin Evans, the local architecture firm that worked on this project.

The Well Collective is a nonprofit that serves as a community-focused organization that offers a diverse set of programming for personal and community development, while acknowledging Richmond’s unique history and its role in the broader American narrative.

Private Residence - Members Only
Cabin Hill, located on the James River, was originally constructed circa 1910 as two log cabins and in 1964 the owners engaged renowned architect Bud Hyland to design a Mid-Century Modern addition to create a kitchen and make it a more family friendly home. The addition has his signature vertical board and batten exterior, which true to his Frank Lloyd Wright training blended seamlessly with the cabin and natural surroundings. New owners will discuss their plans to bring the house into the 21st century for the next generation.
