Historic Richmond was delighted to be awarded two competitive grants for Monumental Church.

We were one of 11 organizations to receive a Commonwealth History Fund Grant from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Support from the VMHC will fund the research, design, fabrication, and installation of interpretive signage inside and outside Monumental Church, including exterior wayfinding signage.

Historic Richmond also received a grant from the Virginia 250 Preservation Fund, administered by DHR, for a comprehensive interior lighting project at Monumental. New lighting will expand the site's functionality as a venue for tours, educational programming, and community events.

Monumental Church is an important resource that speaks not only to major events and figures of American history but shares powerful stories of the everyday people that shaped Richmond and the early United States. These projects are part of our larger efforts to activate this historic landmark, improving visitation and accessibility and bringing Monumental's history to life for modern-day audiences.
