This new five-week illustrated course on Richmond’s delirious and quirky architectural history, taught by architectural historian and columnist Edwin Slipek, focuses on Richmond’s Gothic Revival, Arts & Crafts, Mediterranean Revival, Fantasy Cottage, and Sputnik Style.

The initial session covers Gothic Revival’s influence on well-known churches, parks, campuses, and cemeteries. The second class examines the arrival of the Arts & Crafts style. The Mediterranean Revival is the subject of the third class. The Fantasy Cottage session explores a delightful residential style. The course concludes by hurtling through the Sputnik Style. Please join us for this look at Richmond’s historic and built environment via gargoyles, colored glass, ornate and terracotta tiles, cozy stucco and glittering aluminum!
