Monumental Open During Bike Race

Historic Richmond will open Monumental Church next week from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day during the UCI Road World Championships! Stop by the Church and enjoy a free tour!

Constructed in 1814, Monumental Church is recognized as one of the earliest and best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States. Robert Mills, America’s first native born architect and architectural pupil of Thomas Jefferson, was the man behind the design. You may be familiar with Mills’ work as he also designed the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. Mills designed several churches topped with the Delorme dome, but Richmond’s Monumental Church is the last surviving example in the nation.
